What you get

How to make a star map PNG

  1. Search for the place — a city, a venue, the exact spot.
  2. Set the date and local time. Evenings around 21:00–23:00 show the fullest sky.
  3. Choose colours, typeface and text, and check the free preview.
  4. Buy once ($15) and download the PNG and SVG. The link stays valid, so you can download again later.

One map or Studio?

One map is one finished poster — the map with your headline and captions — for printing at home, at a print shop, or giving as a gift. Studio is for when you need the bare circular map at a custom width, many maps, or maps for products you sell; it also includes the Star Map API.

Questions

Is the star map PNG free?

The preview is free and unlimited — you can try any place, date, colours and text and see the exact result. The preview is watermarked and capped at 800 px; the full-resolution PNG without a watermark is the paid download.

What resolution is the PNG?

One map PNGs are 3,000 px on the short edge — around 250 dpi on a 30 × 40 cm or A3 print, and over 350 dpi on A4. You also get an SVG, which is vector and stays sharp at any size.

Can I get a PNG with a transparent background?

Yes. Switch on “Transparent background” under Colour and there’s no background at all — not around the map, not inside it — just the stars, constellation lines and text, so it sits cleanly on a t-shirt, a mug or your own design.

Can I get just the circular map, without the poster text?

Yes, in Studio. Studio renders the bare map as a PNG or SVG at whatever width you ask for, which is what designers and shops use to place it into their own layouts.

Is the sky accurate?

Yes. The map is calculated from real star catalogue data for the exact place, date and local time you enter — the time zone is worked out from the location, so 22:00 in Tokyo means 22:00 in Tokyo.

Can I sell products with the star map on them?

For resale, use a Studio plan — it lets you generate and sell finished maps to your own customers. One map is a single poster for you or as a gift.
